End-of-Semester Blackboard Checklist
As we approach the end of a semester there is some preparation that must be done to ensure a smooth transition from the old into the new. Did you....

Create a folder on your local machine to store all Blackboard Exported Files.

Export the Gradebook.

  1. Go to the Control Panel of the Blackboard course.
  2. Under Assessment, Click Gradebook.
  3. Click on Download Grades. It takes a few minutes for the command to process, a screen will appear with directions for downloading the gradebook.
  4. Click on Download. A Download Dialog box will appear.
  5. Click Save to continue.
  6. Select the course folder you created earlier for the loaction to save your gradebook.
  7. Rename the file name to an identiable name. For example, 09-02-0103-111-001 can be renamed to Spring2005_0103_111_001. Do not include any spaces in the name.
  8. Click Save complete the download process.

Save the Discussiion Board Messages.

  1. Go to the Control Panel of the Blackboard course.
  2. Under Course Tools, click Discussion Board.
  3. Select a Discussion to archive.
  4. Click on the Show options button on the right side of the screen.
  5. Click Select All.
  6. Click on Collect to compile all the discussion message into single page.

Create a backup (Archive) of your course . Archiving a course creates a record of the course including all the content and student activity. This is useful as a backup.

  1. Go to the Control Panel of the Blackboard course.
  2. Under Course Options, Click Archive Course.
  3. Click Submit. It takes a few minutes for the command to process, a screen will appear prompting you to download your course.
  4. Click on the link to download the course. A Download File Dialog box will appear.
  5. Click Save to continue.
  6. Select the course folder you made earlier as the save location. Rename the file name to an identiable name. For example, 09-02-0103-111-001 can be renamed to Backup_SP05_0103_111_001. Do not include any spaces in the name.
  7. Click Save to complete the download process.

Export your blackoard course. Exporting a course creates a zip file of the course content for future use. It does NOT contain student activity/data.

  1. Go to the Control Panel of the Blackboard course.
  2. Under Course Options, Click Export Course.
  3. Click Submit. It takes a few minutes for the command to process, a screen will appear prompting you to download your course.
  4. Click on the link to download the course. A Download File Dialog box will appear.
  5. Click Save to continue.
  6. Select the course folder you made earlier as the save location. Rename the file name to an identiable name. For example, 09-02-0103-111-001 can be renamed to SP05_Reuseable_0103_111_001. Do not include any spaces in the name.
  7. Click Save to complete the download process.

Make course available to students with "Incompletes." See Instructions below:

  1. Go to the Control Panel of the Blackboard course.
  2. Under User Management, click List/Modify Users. You will see a Search box.
  3. Enter either the person's last name or username. If you enter the persons username be sure to click the radio button next to username.
  4. Click the Search button. A list of one or more users will appear. Find the user you wish to modify, and click the Properties button to the right of his or her information.
  5. Scroll down to section 4, Role and Availability. Under Available (this course only), select Yes from the drop-down box.
  6. Click Submit.
  7. Click OK to return to the List/Modify Users search page. Repeat for multiple students.

Review student grades for errors.
