Multimedia/Hybrid Rooms
Currently 36 of the 72 classrooms at Adelphi have multimedia capabilities and full Internet access to accommodate
video and audio broadcasting and/or PowerPoint presentations. Most multimedia rooms have a podium and
all are equipped with a computer, projector, and VCR. Adelphi's four smart classrooms are tiered lecture
halls equipped with VCR/CD/DVD, Elmo, centrally managed projectors, and data ports. Two large classrooms
are equipped with teleconferencing equipment for two-way synchronous videoconferencing.
Hybrid classrooms represent an innovative development in teaching. Adelphi's new, all-inclusive hybrid
rooms have the functionality of a multimedia room, but require minimal operation and support. Similar
to the traditional classrooms, but without the podium or PC, they have the capability to access the
Internet, stream video and audio, and provide multiple plug and play connections for laptops, projectors,
and other equipment. Faculty can either connect their laptops to the projector via the wall connection
or load PowerPoint presentations by forwarding the file directly to the IP which has been assigned to
the projector in the hybrid room.
More information with a complete list of locations of general access computer labs, hybrid classrooms,
multimedia rooms, and department labs is available at http://infotech.adelphi.edu/resources/labs/.
Video Conferencing
The University has two large classrooms, Hagedorn 108 and 209, equipped with videoconferencing capability,
enabling the Garden City Campus to conduct live video conferences with the Manhattan and Hauppauge Centers
or on the Internet. To reserve one of the rooms, faculty may contact the Office of the Registrar at 516.877.3320.
Please note that faculty must have proper training in order to use the video conference equipment. To download
Adelphi's Videoconferencing Handbook, go to http://infotech.adelphi.edu/services/faculty/dist_lrning.php.
Faculty can take advantage of video streaming by incorporating digital videos into their online course offering.
In addition, faculty can access digitized videos from any of the multimedia classrooms through our high-speed
internal network. Currently over 200 digital videos managed by the FCPE and Libraries are available for
pedagogical needs. For more information on digitalization, please contact the FCPE at 516.877.4220 or
by email at fcpe@adelphi.edu.
Wireless Access
To facilitate network access, both indoor and outdoor wireless hot spots are created on campus. For instruction
on how to connect your laptop with the Adelphi wireless network, go to
http://infotech.adelphi.edu/resources/wireless.php.
