Moodle Vs. Blackboard

by FCPE

Moodle stands for Modular Object Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment. It’s a course management system similar to Blackboard that has been developed by educators for educators and it has been adapted with much success at academic institutions across the country. We now offer this platform to professors at Adelphi as an alternative to Blackboard. Moodle is intuitive to use and offers many activities that foster active learning and student collaboration. Some of Moodle’s features include student teamwork areas, peer evaluation areas, online journaling, built-in blogs and wikis, as well as a flexible course layout.

The FCPE administers user accounts and courses for faculty who wish to start exploring and developing materials in Moodle. These first courses are for testing and development purposes—they are not yet linked to the AU registration system. They can, however, easily be transferred into an actual course to be used in the upcoming semesters.

Faculty in the University College are currently developing courses and activities in Moodle, which will be offered to students in the Spring 2008 semester.

Moodle is open for use by all Adelphi faculty. In order to request a Moodle course for testing and development of materials, please send an email to fcpe@adelphi.edu with the header “Moodle account request”.
