Susan Lambert - Director of Faculty Center for Professional Excellence
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
Welcome to the Spring 2012 issue of the Faculty Teaching and Research Forum.
We are very excited about this semester's issue, which focuses on hybrid and online teaching at Adelphi University. Inside, you will read articles written by some of the faculty at Adelphi who are teaching in these modalities. We hope the insights shared by your colleagues will spark discussions and even inspire you to try something new in your own courses.
You will also find a book review written by our newest Faculty Center senior staff member, Dr. Belle Gironda. In her review, titled "Two Texts for Thinking About the Digital," she shares the work of two authors who seek to empower users of technology and argues that knowledge about programming should be considered integral to the standard definition of "literacy" today.
Dr. Gironda is also introduced to the Adelphi community in this issue by way of her engaging self-authored bio. Also inside are sections on Faculty Grants and news about the Faculty Center's offerings, including the upcoming Teaching with Technology Conference on April 16th, from 2:15-4:45 p.m. in the Campbell Lounge Rooms. Also mentioned is a brand new internship program at the Faculty Center to be launched this coming Fall 2012.
We hope you enjoy this semester's issue as much as we've enjoyed bringing it to you. And, as always, we welcome your comments and suggestions.
Warm regards,
Susan Lambert
