How Faculty Use Google Groups and Google Docs to Collaborate
Google Groups is a free online tool that is used to access and share information with a group of people and communicate effectively over email and on the web. Learn how to create your own groups, how to search groups in your field, how to share information and create collaborative documents and research with peers around the country and the world.
Finding and Incorporating Digital Learning Objects into Teaching
Online repositories of learning objects are searchable and reusable instructional materials that are available on the Web posted by faculty from various disciplines. Many repositories include a mechanism for peer review of all submitted content. Usage is often free of copyright regulations, any restrictions that apply are usually stated on the content site. The instructional materials that are posted on these repositories may include assignments, websites, course guides, tutorials, rubrics, etc. This workshop will introduce participants to popular learning object repositories and their potential adaptation for various disciplines.
Digital Storytelling
This workshop will cover the creation of digital media projects which incorporate sound, images, PowerPoint slides, text and audio in different combinations. Multimedia authoring can provide students with a creative opportunity to synthesize and present what they have learned in a video or audio format. The first half of the workshop will teach participants on how to create an audio Podcast (an audio file that is made available to download from the internet) of classroom lectures/discussions or presentations. The second half will cover how to create slide show movies so that students can express their knowledge of curricular materials. Creating digital media projects not only adds accessibility of course content or assignments, but can also be used to showcase original student work and instructor content.
Audio Podcasting
Faculty will learn how to record lectures and other content via a sound recorder, how to upload files onto a computer and how to edit the sound to their needs. Basic sound editing features will be practiced, such as cutting out undesired parts and adding music at the beginning and end. We will then upload the files to the Adelphi streaming server where students can listen to it any time via the Internet.

Effective and safe camera practices will be introduced. Topics include: choosing effective angles and frames, evaluating and adjusting lighting, customizing camera settings for best results.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own camera if they own one.
Basic Video Editing Skills
